Sydney Sweeney's highly anticipated film, Housemaid's Secret, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
Directed by Paul Feig, this film serves as a sequel to the successful thriller, The Housemaid.
Originally, The Housemaid was a commercial success, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide against a budget of $35 million. It opened with a modest $19 million but continued to attract audiences throughout the holiday season.
Lionsgate, the studio behind this intense R-rated thriller, is strategically releasing the film during the busy Christmas season. Housemaid's Secret will debut on the same day as Avengers: Secret Wars and Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
Sweeney will reprise her role alongside Michele Morrone, who also starred in the original film. Additionally, Kirsten Dunst is joining the cast.
Based on Freida McFadden's bestselling novel, the sequel follows Sweeney's character, Millie, who was initially hired as a live-in maid for a wealthy family with a dark secret. In this new installment, she takes on a job "keeping house for a woman she's never allowed to see."
Filming for Housemaid's Secret is set to begin by the end of this year. Feig returns to direct, alongside screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first novel. Feig is also producing the film with Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Laura Fischer of Pretty Dangerous, and Sweeney through Fifty-Fifty Films.
