Jet Li is making his return to the screen with two upcoming wuxia microdramas produced in China.
The action star, originally from China and a Singaporean citizen since 2009, will celebrate his 63rd birthday at the end of April. He recently attended an event hosted by microdrama production company Hongguo on March 31.
"The size of the stage is not important, whether it's a blockbuster movie, web drama, television drama, or microdrama. This is a great platform because it allows more people to pursue their dreams," he stated.
During the event, Jet announced the titles of the two microdramas he has participated in.
The first microdrama, set to be released in April, revolves around a massage therapist named Chen Ye (played by Du Yafei), who unexpectedly acquires supernatural powers. With his new abilities, he teams up with heiress Yin Qingli (played by Sun Linya) to uncover a conspiracy involving a questionable martial arts organization.
In this drama, Jet portrays a character named Feng Zi, who offers Chen Ye martial arts training and spiritual guidance.
At the lensing ceremony on January 31, he shared in a video posted on Weibo that it has always been his dream to act in a kungfu microdrama that resonates with the younger generation, emphasizing that it's a valuable way to share culture.
He encouraged the actors present at the ceremony, saying: "For those of you who have acted in microdramas before, you are my seniors. If it's your first time acting in a microdrama, then we will all learn together."
The second microdrama tells the story of Chen Sanqi (played by Du Jiangsan), a powerful swordmaster from the Wudang sect who goes into hiding after his sect is attacked by the rival Black Wing clan. Twenty years later, when the clan returns to threaten the town, Sanqi collaborates with the villagers to restore peace.
Details about Jet's character in this drama have yet to be disclosed, but it is also slated for release in April.
During the lensing ceremony on March 15, he expressed his sense of responsibility to spread knowledge and culture about kungfu to audiences around the world.
